Let’s Be Real: Week 103

Short week. Somehow, the to-do list didn’t get the memo.

The teams worked Monday, but I took the day off to be with my son, who was off from school. That’s one of the things I love about owning a business: the freedom to be there for my kids.

As I think about my next moves, I appreciate that freedom even more. It’s important to me to keep building a life where I can do work I love and be there for my kids.

The rest of the week, I was on the road doing quotes, juggling schedules, handling back-office work, picking up equipment, and figuring out what comes next.

The equipment saga? Still going. At this point, it could have its own weekly series.

Getting it to work the way I need will take a pretty big investment. In the meantime, I’m subbing out some jobs, which keeps the work moving but leaves less profit.

And there’s the cash-flow loop. I need the equipment working to keep more of what we earn. I need more cash to fix the equipment. Coming out of slow season, money is tight.

I’m working through it, but let’s be real. This is part of owning a business, too. Give a support emoji if you relate.

On a brighter note, I kept working on my website, and I’m still in awe of how it’s coming together.

I put this off for a YEAR because I thought I needed to hire someone. Now I’m building it with AI.

Six months ago, I thought most of the AI talk was overhyped. My thinking was, “Who, not how.” I’d hire someone who knew how to use it.

My friend Zeynep A. Talu-Balci kept telling me, “No, you need to learn this yourself.”

Zeynep, you were right.

Funny enough, she messaged me this weekend about what she’s learning with AI for podcasts. She thought of me. Clearly, she’s still trying to keep me up to speed.

Now I’m looking into courses because, holy shit, this is moving fast. The more I learn, the more I see ways to use it in my business and everyday life. And the more I realize how much I still don’t know.

I went from “I’ll have someone do that” to “Wait, show me how you did that.”

On the podcast front, I had a great recording with James Hatfield from LiveSwitch, he’s the real deal.

And dropping this week: episode four with Nouchelle Hastings!

I met Nouchelle about a month after I launched the business, and we hit it off. She’s been one of my biggest cheerleaders ever since. A leader, friend, colleague, and truly a unicorn.

I like to keep these interviews focused on my guests, but Nouchelle kept trying to bring me into the spotlight. Which tells you something about her. This time, the spotlight is hers.

Whether you’ve known her for years or haven’t met her yet, come get to know Nouchelle. I certainly learned a few things!

So yes, there’s equipment to fix and cash flow to work through. There’s also a website I finally stopped putting off, a podcast that’s growing, and new things I’m excited to learn.

Apparently, I can be stressed about one part of the business and excited about another. All in the same afternoon.
